From the campus of East Carolina University in Greenville, NC.  Here is a dogwood blossom we found on our tour.  Carolina springtime is like nothing I’ve every experienced.  Warm, colorful, with Carolina blue skies.

This is a section of the iron fence surrounding the Governor’s Mansion in downtown Annapolis MD.  I was on a photowalk on a hopelessly cold late March evening.  I have never made my mind up on this photo.  For that reason it’s sat dormant on the posting queue.  However, this morning it caught my eye so I thought I would go ahead and share.

The plan was simple.

Weed the flower beds, mulch the flower beds, sweep the sidewalks, eat lunch.

Notice that photography is nowhere in that agenda.  However, as I was finishing up the mulching our neighbors, who live in the house above, emerged with camera in hand looking to improve their online real estate photographs of the property.  After a short discussion about the best time of day to take photos of the house my tripod and Canon 7d were set up bracketing photographs for our neighbors.  Earlier this evening I edited the 27 bracketed photos I shot,  ending  up with 13 finished exterior photos.  The photo above is my personal favorite.

Real estate photography has always been an area I am interested in.  This mini-project was a good primer for how to set these shots up, and an even better primer on how to quickly edit and send the photos to the end user.

Oh, and I finished all of the tasks on the yard work agenda.

One more from the Jonas Green Photo meetup last night.  This photo was taken after the sun had set.  It’s three long exposure images, put through HDR software and edited slightly in LR4.  Probably my best set of HDR brackets all night.  Have a great weekend everyone.

We were at Jonas Green Park, which is on the north side of the Severn River near the US Naval Academy (Academy is to my left in the photo).  I haven’t done much editing here, at least not my normal editing.  Hope you enjoy.

Had a quick photography project last week at work, and I ran across a pile of cores waiting to return to the re-builder.  Rusting piles of steel debris always makes for interesting b/w photographs.  Not much editing here, just adjustments to white/black levels and boost in contrast and clarity.  I struggled with overexposure in the four thread holes, but finally got the overexposure under control with a white balance correction.

Photography lately has been focusing on portraits of sports teams, family members and events.  This has never been my thing, but tonight I had a great photo session with my daughter who was getting ready for prom with a friend.  She was being very silly and both had fun posing and snapping photographs.

Obviously I need some more practice, but I like this shot of her.  Have a great weekend everyone!

This photo is quite odd when compared to the others I took on this photo-excursion.  This was taken about a block off Maryland Avenue in the historic district of Annapolis.  I had just walked around St. John’s College photographing flowers and architecture and walked past this graffiti on my way back to the car. Largely the photos that afternoon weren’t much and  most have been culled.

This is also a photo that was sent through a final editing process in Snapseed.  If you have not tried this app on your tablet or smartphone, I’d suggest you give it a try.  Very powerful, but not complicated.  And it from the folks at NIK software.
