Noisy Moon 2/15/11

F5.6 @1/500 ISO200 300MM

Fooling around with some moon shots last night. Here is a really noisy rendering of the moon as seen looking SE around 6:30 PM on 2/15/11.  Not my best piece of editing, but I kind of like the ultra noisy look of the moon.

  1. I’d like to think that my recent moon post had something to do with your desire to head out and shoot the moon!

With the clear skys and full moon coming, its been a good week to shoot the moon.

  2. I see you took yours with a 300mm, i wish I had that power too. I was reading the other day about photographing the stars, problem around here is all of the ambient light, so now I’m trying to figure out where I could go that its actually”dark”.

    1. I’ve seen good starts when were are out on the Outer Banks, way up north in the 4×4 access area north of Corolla. Lynn gave me a Tamron 70-300 F4.5-5.6 tele with image stabilization for Christmas. It’s proven to be a great lens so far..

    1. Thanks for the comment AJ. I think your rendering of the moon is pretty good in it’s own right. Good work!

You may try speeding up your shutter a little to underexpose the bright sunlight on the moon surface. Nice work!

  3. Thanks Nels! I gave it another shot tonight and took your advice. The whole evening was kind of a comedy of errors and about everything that could go wrong did go wrong. But I got a couple that I’m not embarrassed about, and one I’m actually pleased with.
